Unity ceremonies are a part of a wedding ceremony where you and your partner complete a task symbolizing your union between each other and Christ. With so many couples taking part in having big weddings and starting trends, there are so many options out there to include in your wedding ceremony. You can have multiple unity ceremonies within your wedding ceremony, or you can leave it out all together! It is a special symbol of becoming one union with Christ and it is such a sweet moment to witness as a guest.
I have listed below some of my favorite unity ceremony ideas and trends to hopefully spark some inspiration and creativity for you, or help you find the perfect option for you and your future spouse.
My name is Elizabeth Jones of EJ Events Wedding & Event planning based in NE Alabama. Here to help you bring your wedding vision to life and let go of all the wedding planning stress.
Braiding Of The Cord
This unity ceremony involves a cross or plain background with 3 cords attached unbraided. This symbolizes 2 coming together as one with Christ. You and your partner will braid the cords together and tie them off at the end. This idea comes from the verse Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12.
Unity Candle Ceremony
The unity candle ceremony is a well-known traditional option.
You and your partner will each light a candle and use these to light a separate candle together. Symbolizing joining together in a union.
Sand Ceremony
This unity ceremony involves different colors of sand being mixed together by you and your future spouse to represent the blending of lives and family.
Unity Cross
The unity cross ceremony is to symbolize coming together as one and commitment. You and your fiancé will take two separate pieces of a cross and join them together.
Branding Unity
If you love all things western, this may be the one for you!
A branding unity ceremony represents making your mark as a new union. You and your partner will have a branding stick with your initials or another symbol that represents the two of you and brand hide or wood.
Tree Planting Ceremony
The tree planting ceremony represents bringing something new to life just as you are beginning your new life with your partner. You and your future spouse will pour water or soil into a potted tree and then carry this with you into your new life to take care of and cherish, just as your marriage.
